What is Koikatsu! Sunshine? Converting character cards
The official genre of Koikatsu! Sunshine is ３ＤキャラメイクＨ恋愛シミュレーション. Release is 27 August 2021. It is not an append disc for Koikatsu!; it is a standalone new title set on a southern island. The game itself is no longer sold.
What is Koikatsu! Sunshine?
It is set on an open southern island in summer sun. The official story is a summer training trip from a girls’ school. You grow closer through talk, dates, and エステ.
The island has more than 20 areas. Morning/day, evening, and night change the scenery, and some events only happen in that time of day.
Facilities include エステ for oil massage, an お祈りスポット for the day’s luck, and a shop for conversation topics and H items.
At エステ you apply oil and get close.
H scenes add new positions. Spots on the island include a banana boat and a fitting room.
H also happens on the island at night.
Character design
The character-design system continues from Koikatsu! and is improved. With the new personality 島っ娘 there are 40 personalities. More than 80 hair, clothes, and accessory items were added, plus new materials and makeup. Koikatsu! character data can be used. What loads is appearance.
New Sunshine outfits are included, and every costume from Koikatsu! and アフタースクール is in as well. There is also male character creation. A character-creation trial was distributed before release.
Pre-order bonus: 乙姫セット
The bonus was the extra costume 乙姫セット — Otohime in a hagoromo with jellyfish and bubbles — on a bundled download card.
It was limited to reservations through 26 August 2021, just before release.
The product
The official DL price was 7,638 yen including tax. The DVD edition was 9,800 yen excluding tax (3 DVDs + 1 CD). Windows 8.1 / 10 (64-bit). Required free space is 30 GB or more. The DVD bonus is a maxi single of the theme song 青白コントラスト by 榊原ゆい. The game itself is no longer sold.
Koikatsu! Sunshine Extension!
Paid extra data for the base game. You need Koikatsu! Sunshine. Release is 8 April 2022. The official genre is コイカツ！サンシャイン 追加データセット. The official DL price was 5,800 yen including tax; the DVD edition was 6,800 yen excluding tax (1 DVD). Extra storage is 10 GB.
Four personalities were added — 高潔, ボクっ娘, 天真爛漫, and ノリノリ — with dedicated date scenes.

The スイートルーム map is added.
Costumes, hair, and accessories are added, plus clothing patterns, emblems, and paint.
New H includes お姫様抱っこ側位 and 足抱え後背位, plus a rotor and dildo from the night shop.
Shared cards often assume the extra data, so install Extension if you play Sunshine.
Pre-order bonus: マジックアカデミーセット
The bonus was the extra costume マジックアカデミーセット — a magic-school uniform with a rod — on a bundled download card.
It was limited to reservations through 7 April, the day before release.
Free extras and CHARA STUDIO
Official free costume packs for the base game are お祭りセット, ファンシーセット, サイバーセット, お月見セット, ハロウィンセット, おやすみセット, クリスマスセット, and バレンタインセット. Extension adds 桜満開セット and 踊り子セット.
The diorama viewer CHARA STUDIO places characters, maps, and items for photos and viewing. Koikatsu! CHARA STUDIO scene data can be loaded and edited as-is. There is also a VR program for H scenes. Supported hardware is HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Quest 1 / 2.
Koikatsu! Sunshine Complete Pack
A bundle of the base game and Extension. It was a little cheaper than buying them separately, so the complete pack was the better choice if you wanted both at once.

Hair or costumes do not load
Some cards use mods. Without those mods, the character may not match the preview.
Card compatibility
Sunshine can load Koikatsu! cards. The reverse is not possible.
Card conversion
Koikatsu! cards placed in the Sunshine character folder are converted to Sunshine cards on launch. Cards added while the game is running are not converted.
Coordinate-type conversion
Sunshine coordinate types are 私服, 水着, 寝間着, and 風呂場. Koikatsu! types other than 私服 and 水着, which exist in both, convert to other types.
学生服（校内）, 体操着, and 部活 from before conversion are not shown in Sunshine.

Because Koikatsu! is set at a school, the main outfit is often 学生服（校内）. School-themed works may use 私服 or another type; it depends on the creator.
Trilogy Pack or Sunshine?
Use the Trilogy Pack if you want shared cards. Use Sunshine if you play original characters.
There are more shared cards for the Trilogy Pack because of release timing, and Sunshine needs conversion. Sunshine also limits coordinate types, so you have to choose which outfits to keep.
If you only play original characters, Sunshine has no real drawback. It adds positions, and unless you specifically want a school setting, Sunshine is the better pick.
